MALTA

Our trip to Malta in April 2024 just so happened to coincide with a crunch clash in the title race between Ħamrun Spartans and Floriana FC at Ta' Qali National Stadium.

We were sitting among the Ħamrun Spartans fans and it quickly became clear that we had picked the right side as they strolled to a comfortable 5-0 victory over Mauro Camoranesi’s side to claim their 10th league title.

After enjoying the title celebrations with a beer or two in the sun, we returned to our hotel. Then, on the way out to dinner that evening, we happened to bump into the Melita team bus which was celebrating the team’s promotion to the top flight!

The rest of the trip was spent enjoying a boat trip around the islands, mooching around Valletta and visiting the small fishing village of Marsaxlokk, whose local club once made an audacious bid to sign Paul Gascoigne!
