ROMANIA

The month of May 2026 was a busy one for the Sweeper crew. After our trip to Bruges and Brussels at the start of the month, we finished it by visiting Bucharest and linking up with Patreon supporter Charlie Craven, who lives in Romania’s capital.

Charlie has been a Patreon supporter of ours from the very beginning. It is that support that has enabled us to keep making this podcast - and we are extremely grateful for it. But in addition, Charlie has been a gold mine for brilliant stories from Romania - in particular the lower leagues.

So when we arrived in Bucharest, we decided the most Sweeper thing to do would be to see a lower-league game and opted for Omega Sport București’s 2-0 win against Centrul German de Fotbal in a fourth-division promotion play-off.

The stadium was about as run-down as they get but we enjoyed a sunny afternoon in the rickety stands, having a drink and chatting to Charlie about Romanian football. For us, that is what groundhopping is all about!
