United States of America

Most of the time when we book a trip, it’s with a specific game already in mind. But when Lee travelled to New York in March 2024, holiday was the first priority. And the chance to tack an MLS game onto the trip only emerged later on.

And it turned out to be the perfect Sweeper game. We love cross-border clubs - and on this occasion, Canadians Toronto FC were at Yankee Stadium. Though watching football at a baseball stadium did not quite have the same feel.

It was the Canadians who took the lead in the Big Apple, only for New York City FC to hit back with two goals - and see the win over the line despite having been reduced to 10 men midway through the second half.

The main feedback that we got after this trip was why on earth did we choose NYCFC for our first MLS game. There are plenty of other stadia we’d love to visit in the league of course, but if you’re in town, you might as well see what you can see!

The rest of the trip was more following the typical tourist trail: Empire State Building, Statue of Liberty, Central Park, etc etc. But even with that action-packed agenda, it would have felt wrong not to incorporate football somehow!
